Palm Sunday

On April 28, 2024, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II celebrated the Holy Qurobo on the occasion of Palms Sunday, at St. Georges Patriarchal Cathedral in Bab Touma, Damascus.

During the Holy Qurobo, His Holiness was assisted by their Eminences Archbishops: Mor Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Assistant, and Mor Andrawos Bahhi, Patriarchal Vicar for Youth Affairs and Christian Education, in the presence of Archbishop Mor Augeen Al-Khoury Nemat, Patriarchal Secretary.

In his sermon, His Holiness spoke the entrance of the Lord Jesus Christ to Jerusalem as a king, different from other kings who conquer with their soldiers and military power. He pointed out that this was the last time the Lord entered Jerusalem before His death on the cross and His resurrection. The children welcomed Him and announced that He is the King of Israel. He showed humility and declared that His kingdom is not of this world. His Holiness spoke about the meaning of being the children of a spiritual kingdom which is different than any kingdom of this world and its power and authorities. He added that the children’s voices shouting “Hosanna” reflects their desire to have salvation. He prayed for the Church that she may become a true kingdom of the Lord and be ready to receive Him forever.

During the special service of Palms Sunday, His Holiness and the clergy walked in a procession among the children holding candles and branches of olive and palm.
