Eastern Regional One-Day Retreat
Saturday, December 28th, 2002
St George’s Syrian Orthodox Church, Carteret, NJ

It is with great honor and pleasure that I announce the success of the annual Eastern Regional One-Day Retreat hosted by St. George's Syrian Orthodox Church, Carteret, NJ. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Rev. Fr. Varghese Manikat and St. George's Youth for making the day a success. I am happy to report that MGSOSA once again displayed active participation in the program with over 80 youth present at the event. The youth benefited from the praise and worship sessions. We had the pleasure of having Very Rev. Fr. Eugene Ramban as the chief speaker. He was able to effectively address the Theme: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me." (Matthew 16:24). The discussions were fruitful and several youth members commented on the speaker and his helpfulness in answering their questions and concerns. We truly were blessed to have Rev. Fr. Eugene Ramban present and we look forward to having him speak at future events. I would also like to thank St. Mary's White Plains youth and everyone who helped with registration, group leaders, and the fellowship team. I am truly pleased with our youth and I encourage the young people to continue their support and interest in our church and its activities. Once again, thanks to all who made the event a grand success. MGSOSA hopes to host another regional one-day retreat during spring break 2003.

Fall Southwest Regional Conference: On December 27, 2002, we were blessed to come together with our fellow youth association members to hold our fall southwest regional conference at St. Ignatious Church, Carrollton. The four churches that participated in the conference were St. George Church Oklahoma, St Mary’s Church Dallas, St. Mary’s Church Houston, and St. Ignatious Church Carrollton. Together, the four churches had about 60 youth members who attend the conference. The topic of the regional conference was “Words to Live By – The Bible and its Relationship to the Church.” With this topic in mind, our keynote speaker Professor Ammini Jeevan, Ph.D and Rev. Dn. Zachariah Varghese dissected the Bible and explained the role of the Bible in our church and in our lives. The conference also included other activities such as group discussions on paradoxes in the Bible, games, and praise & worship lead by Mr. Shannon Barett. Overall, the fall southwest regional conference was successfully held and spiritual uplifted those youth members who attended.

MGSOSA Northeast Regional Dinner & Prayer Night
Sunday, August 25, 2002
St Mark's Syrian Orthodox Cathedral, Teaneck, NJ
Guest Speaker: Very Rev. Fr. John Meno

As the secretary of the MGSOSA, it is with great honor and pleasure that I announce the success of the annual Prayer and Dinner Night hosted by St. Mary's White Plains. MGSOSA had over 80 youth present at the event. Several parishes in the tristate area participated in the program. The youth had the opportunity to pray and worship as a group. We had the opportunity to have Very Rev. Fr. John Meno as the chief speaker. He allowed the youth to address issues and concerns regarding our faith, customs, and traditions. The young people asked thoughtful questions concerning infant baptism, praying for the departed souls, intercessional prayers with the Saints, our faiths in relation to other Christian Sects, etc. The discussions were fruitful and several youth members commented on the speaker and his helpfulness in answering the questions. We truly were blessed to have Fr. Meno present and we look forward to having him speak at future events. The message was followed by dinner which was sponsored by St. Mary's White Plains. The decision to disperse the $5 fee to charity was also announced at the dinner. I am truly pleased with our youth and I encourage the young people to continue their support and interest in our church and its activities. Once again thanks to all who made the event a grand success.

Southern Regional Youth League Conference

Dallas, Texas - June 2002

The spring southwest regional conference was held at St. Ignatious Church in Carrollton, TX.  Around fifty youth members attended from St. Mary’s church (Dallas), St. George church (Oklahoma), St. Mary’s church (Houston) and also from St. Ignatious church (Carrollton).  Activities included games, group discussion, thought provoking debate, and praise & worship. Dr. Thomas Varghese oversaw the morning discussion. He was very informative with his knowledge about church history and present day events. The theme of the conference was ‘Relevance of Jesus Christ in the Present Age.’ Dr. Varghese presented this theme to the participants who attended very effectively.  In the afternoon session, the participants got to know each other a little better with games and another debate. The conference concluded with a praise and worship session led by Rath Leugong.  His voice and guitar really up-lifted everyone who participated.
